Why we started

Health can mean different things to different people and each person has a unique make-up so no treatment can be a one-size-fits-all. But as we navigate through the mainstream health care system and the online world of health experts and influencers, it’s easy to get lost in a flurry of sometimes conflicting information.

While the healthcare system focuses on treatment of illness using medication (and there’s a place for that) and the online world shows us new health fads that may not always be suited to everyone, what’s missing is the personalisation and the support not just when you’re unwell but to help maintain good health for life.

With an insider’s experience of working in the health care system with its 10-minute appointment slots and noticing trends in the type of health concerns that people across the board were presenting with, Illuminate Health emerged from a frustration with a system not set up to address people’s needs.

The system is disjointed in that it attends to acute health needs and becomes exhausted by this, but isn’t able to work upstream where many of the conditions we see could have been avoided with health promotion and prevention.

At Illuminate Health we understand that the key elements of a meaningful and helpful consultation are having enough time, listening to the client and working together to find a treatment plan that is achievable and gets results. We look at your health potential, not just your health problems.

It’s not a sugar-coated pill though – we know that the answers to our health imbalances are found in our daily activities. We strongly believe that diet, lifestyle and our response to stress are the core fundamentals of health. However, we also recognise that modern living sometimes requires a modern approach. So, we have taken one of the oldest time-tested medical systems, Ayurveda, to guide our mind and body to align with nature and become resilient to illness, and combined this with newer therapeutics such as light therapy.
